Lithuania foils attempted sanctions breach linked to Russia
Lithuanian authorities detained a group of employees from a company based in Kaunas, Lithuania, under suspicion of violating sanctions against Russia.
Officials arrested 11 individuals, including company managers and drivers from Moldova and Bulgaria, following searches at their homes and workplaces, as reported by Russian media, citing the customs criminal service.
The investigation revealed that the company had attempted to ship water purification equipment to Russia's oil industry using a falsified recipient address in Portugal.
During the operation, authorities seized several tons of equipment valued at approximately €2 million.
The operation was conducted in cooperation with law enforcement counterparts in Portugal and Bulgaria, underscoring the cross-border coordination in enforcing sanctions.
