Serbian president urges dialogue amid prolonged anti-government protests
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić called for renewed dialogue with anti-government protesters who have been staging demonstrations for over nine months across the Balkan nation.
Addressing the ongoing unrest, Vučić emphasized the importance of resolving the country’s challenges through democratic engagement rather than violence, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
“Serbia must address its problems through democratic dialogue, not violence,” Vučić asserted during a public statement. He specifically appealed to those obstructing roads as part of the protests, urging them to participate in constructive discussions and public debates regarding the current situation.
“I urge those blocking the roads to engage in discussion, in public debates about the vision of the situation,” the president said. He further stressed the government’s readiness to openly discuss future plans and policy programs, signaling a willingness to foster greater political inclusion and transparency.
Vučić concluded with a unified call condemning the violent incidents that have occasionally marred the protests: “We will discuss our plans and programs for the future, and all together, condemn the violence on the streets.”
