Israel warns journalists of surge in suspected Iranian phishing campaign
16 August 2026 13:50
Israel’s Shin Bet security agency and National Cyber Directorate have warned of a rise in phishing attempts by suspected Iranian intelligence operatives targeting Israeli journalists.
The agencies said the campaign aimed to gather information on recent political and security developments, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ynet.
Operatives primarily contacted journalists via WhatsApp and Telegram, posing offers of cooperation, interview invitations or requests for conversations. Some also impersonated well-known reporters.
The messages were designed to establish trust before directing targets to fake meeting pages seeking Google login credentials or containing malicious links and files.
