CNN: Unidentified vessel attacks two Ecuadorian fishing boats, detains crews

An unidentified vessel attacked two Ecuadorian fishing boats near the Galápagos Islands in the Pacific Ocean and detained their crews, CNN reports.

According to the report, the fishing vessels La Negra Francisca Duarte II and Don Maca were attacked by drones carrying explosives before their crews were detained by armed men aboard a blue vessel that the fishermen described as a “ghost ship.”

The men aboard the blue vessel spoke English, while some of them wore patches bearing the US flag. The unidentified individuals later handed the fishermen over to El Salvador’s coast guard, claiming that the fishermen had been shipwrecked.

The US Department of Defense and the CIA declined to provide information about the incident.
