California man survives four accidents in one hour on snowy highway

02 March 2023 19:38

A California man nearly lost his life on a snowy highway after surviving four crashes.

As an unexpected storm batters the Golden State, James Halsey, 32, reminisced back to the snowy Big Bear highway where he nearly died near Holcomb Valley Road on Highway 18, Daily Mail reports.

Halsey was on the busy highway heading back to his home when his car started to slide downhill.

"I noticed a car coming from the opposite direction so instead of going head-on to the car, I slid and I messed up [the] front tire," Halsey told ABC 7.

While waiting for a tow truck, Halsey stepped outside of his car and within a blink of an eye found himself flying up in the air after being hit by another car.

The driver of the vehicle saw Halsey on the side of the highway and was heading to help him when the two crashed on the icy road.

“I kind of flew up in the air at some point, landed under the car," Halsey recalled. "I just got back up instantly and my hands were sliced up pretty bad.”

While wrapping his hands with the other driver's t-shirt, Halsey's life flashed before his eyes yet again when he was struck by a car driving uphill and pinned between two cars.

“Before the paramedics got there, another vehicle ran and hit and pinned me up,” he recalled.

Halsey was left uninjured after being stuck between the two cars and was transported to the hospital soon after by an ambulance.

Just when Halsey thought he was in the clear, another vehicle slammed into the ambulance.

Halsey was shaken from the four incident and recalled no other injuries. He only sustained a hand injury and was able to leave the hospital two hours later.

“God protected me through that because even the hospital was amazed at how I was still alive after all that," Halsey said. "I really believe I'm highly blessed and favored by God. I mean, I really believe he protected me.”

His story comes as California battles another storm with snow extending to areas at lower elevations.

The storm that hit last week brought freezing temperatures, dumped several feet of snow, caused widespread flooding and left tens of thousands of people without power.

California is not off the hook yet and is expected to experience another storm on February 26 evening.

The National Weather Service predicts weaker storms through March 1 bringing up to an inch of rain near the coast and valley and two inches in the mountains and foothills.

More snow is also expected up to 18 inches in some areas with the highest amount predicted in the San Gabriel mountains.

Much of the state is still reeling from the effects of a multi-day winter storm, which saw even a dusting of snow on the Hollywood sign and more than three feet in the northern mountains.

Videos posted online also showed RVs being swept up into Los Angeles-area rivers amid widespread flooding and sparks flying from downed powerlines.

Major highways remained closed on February 26 morning, after drivers were left stranded for hours on end.

Those roads may continue to be closed for the coming days as another storm beginning on February 26 night and lasting through March 1 brings even more rain and snow.
