SpaceX, Charter explore partnership for US mobile service

27 June 2026 15:57

SpaceX and Charter Communications have held executive-level discussions about partnering on a consumer mobile phone service in the United States, Reuters reports, citing people familiar with the matter.

The potential partnership would allow Charter to route some of SpaceX's mobile phone traffic through its terrestrial internet infrastructure, expanding the satellite company's connectivity capabilities.

The discussions come as SpaceX expands its direct-to-cell satellite communications business. The company already provides direct-to-cell connectivity in partnership with T-Mobile, offering supplemental mobile coverage from space to improve service in remote areas of the United States.

The Financial Times reported earlier that SpaceX has told investors it plans to launch a Starlink mobile service for U.S. consumers, a move that could position the Elon Musk-led company as a direct competitor to major wireless carriers Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile.
