China stands firm on BRICS currency despite Trump’s countermeasure threats

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has said that China maintains a consistent stance on the potential creation of a BRICS currency.

“China holds such a position despite recent statements by US President Donald Trump warning of countermeasures if such a currency were to materialize,” Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

"We have previously addressed this issue," said the Information and Press Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in response to Trump's recent comments on the matter. The ministry also provided the dates when it issued relevant statements, emphasizing the consistency of China's position on the issue.

Earlier, the Chinese Foreign Ministry responded twice to Trump’s similar statements. Spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry Mao Ning emphasized that China is ready to further deepen practical cooperation in various fields with its BRICS partners and contribute even more to the stable growth of the global economy.

She also pointed out that the goal of BRICS is to achieve universal development and prosperity.

US President Donald Trump warned off BRICS member countries from replacing the US dollar as a reserve currency by repeating a 100 per cent-tariffs threat he had made weeks after winning the November presidential election. 

"We are going to require a commitment from these seemingly hostile Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty US Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs," Trump said on Truth Social in a statement nearly identical to one he posted on November 30.
