Trump invites Brazil’s Lula to join Gaza “Peace Council”
U.S. President Donald Trump has invited his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to join the international “Peace Council” on Gaza, CNN Brasil reports.
According to the outlet, the invitation letter was sent through the U.S. Embassy in Washington and delivered to Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It remains unclear whether the head of state will take part in the new body.
The “Peace Council” was announced by Trump on January 16 and is part of his peace plan aimed at resolving the situation in Gaza. Its members include U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the president’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, the American leader’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, World Bank President Ajay Banga, billionaire Marc Rowan, and Deputy National Security Advisor Robert Gabriel.
Bloomberg notes that countries seeking a permanent seat on the “Peace Council” must contribute at least $1 billion.
