Chinese chess player triumphs over Indian rival in first game of World Chess Championship
Chinese chess player Ding Liren gained a victory over Indian chess player Dommaraju Gukesh in the first game of the World Chess Championship.
The game concluded on the 42nd move, with Ding Liren playing with black pieces. The match is being held in Singapore, where Ding Liren is the reigning World Chess Champion, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The next game is scheduled for November 26, and the tournament will run until December 13. Gukesh won the Candidates Tournament this year, earning the right to challenge the reigning champion.
The Indian grandmaster became the youngest ever winner of the Candidates Tournament. Liren became the World Chess Champion last year, gaining a victory over Russia's chess player Ian Nepomniachtchi in a tiebreak.
The participants of the title match, with a prize fund of $2.5 million, will play up to 14 classical games. In case of a tie, a tiebreak will take place.
