Completion of Zangezur corridor in Azerbaijan scheduled for next year, says official
Construction of the Zangezur corridor on Azerbaijani territory is expected to be completed next year, Fariz Aliyev, Head of the Transport Policy Department at the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, announced.
Speaking at a ceremony dedicated to the arrival of a container train from Zhejiang Province, China, at the Absheron Logistics Terminal, Aliyev highlighted significant progress on the corridor, which will become a key link in Azerbaijan’s transport network and boost transit shipments along both East–West and North–South routes, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
He also added that projects in this direction are being implemented in Türkiye in parallel: “The foundation has been laid for the 224-kilometre section of the Kars–Dilucu line, which will be fully completed within the next four years. Once the Zangezur Corridor is operational, the annual volume of shipments along the Middle Corridor will increase by an additional 15 million tons.”
The official also noted that last year, 358 container trains were sent from China to Europe, underscoring Azerbaijan’s growing transit capacity and the impact of its ongoing infrastructure reforms.
