Egypt, Israel exchange fresh proposals on Gaza ceasefire

11 April 2025 14:05

Egypt and Israel have exchanged new proposals aimed at halting hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

Both parties shared updated drafts related to a potential ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave, Caliber.Az reports, citing Arab media. The documents were reportedly exchanged through intermediaries involved in the negotiations.

Egypt, which is mediating the talks alongside the United States and Qatar, has put forward a revised proposal that combines earlier initiatives from Cairo and Washington.

According to the report, the new Egyptian framework is seen as a promising step that could help bridge gaps between the conflicting sides and lead to tangible progress shortly.

The ongoing diplomatic efforts come as regional and international actors continue to push for a cessation of fighting, which has led to a deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

To recall one month after Israel halted the flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, aid agencies reported that conditions for the two million residents had deteriorated significantly. The United Nations, NGOs, and local sources have highlighted escalating hunger, limited access to clean water, and flea infestations in overcrowded displacement camps.

The situation has been exacerbated by intensified Israeli military operations that began in March, accompanied by further evacuation orders. Israel had suspended the delivery of food and other supplies ahead of the renewed assault, aiming to pressure Hamas over hostage negotiations and ceasefire terms. Israel also claims Hamas diverts humanitarian aid — an accusation the United States acknowledged last May.

Since 18 March, nearly 400,000 Palestinians have been displaced, according to the UN. Gaza’s Ministry of Health reports that at least 1,391 people, including 505 children, have been killed during this period — marking the highest weekly child death toll in a year, the UN noted.
