Egyptian FM points to UN's inaction in Gaza as cause of Lebanon's suffering
The current tragedy unfolding in Lebanon is a direct consequence of the UN Security Council's "shameful failure" to halt the war in Gaza, according to Egyptian Foreign Minister Bedr Abdulati.
Speaking during an emergency session of the UN Security Council on Lebanon, convened at France's request, Abdulati strongly criticized the Council’s inability to prevent the escalation of violence, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
Abdulati emphasized that Lebanon is enduring a full-scale assault and blatant violation of its sovereignty, a founding member of the UN, as Israeli attacks continue to breach the UN Charter and international humanitarian law. These attacks have resulted in hundreds of deaths, thousands of injuries, and the displacement of tens of thousands of Lebanese citizens.
He further stated that Lebanon's suffering is the inevitable outcome of the Security Council's failure to act on its responsibility to bring an end to the Gaza conflict. Abdulati warned that if the global community does not take immediate action to halt Israeli aggression, the crisis could expand to other regions.
The Egyptian foreign minister called for an immediate cessation of Israeli violations against Lebanon's sovereignty and condemned the continued disregard for UN Security Council Resolution 1701. He urged that the full and immediate implementation of Resolution 2735 and an end to the war in Gaza are crucial for restoring stability in the region.
