Germany to transfer €70 million to bolster Ukraine's winter energy supplies
Germany's Development Ministry has announced that it would provide Ukraine with €70 million to support its heating and electricity supplies during the winter months.
The funds will be allocated to supply Ukrainian towns and municipalities with small thermal power stations, boiler systems, generators, and solar energy systems, as stated by the ministry after a meeting of the budget committee, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The Ukrainian Energy Ministry has indicated that it anticipates significant power outages this winter, despite ongoing repair efforts.
"Russia's attacks on energy supplies are intended to wear down and drive out Ukrainians. We are supporting Ukraine in rebuilding its electricity supply in a decentralised way so that Russia will not be able to destroy it as easily," said German Development Minister Svenja Schulze.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on September 25 that Russia had destroyed all of Ukraine's thermal power plants and "a large part" of the country's hydroelectric capacity. He noted that, in total, Russia has caused damage to 80% of the energy infrastructure.
