European parliament slams Poland over human rights violations
13 August 2024 18:34
Members of the European Parliament from Italy have directed criticism towards Poland, accusing the country of creating a zone along its border with Belarus where human rights are being violated.
The MEPs sent a letter to EU High Representative Josep Borrell, which was published on the Parliament’s website, Caliber.Az reports.
The letter refers to a buffer area along the Polish-Belarusian border, where human rights monitors and the media do not have access.
The MEPs highlighted that Polish lawmakers have enacted legislation allowing border police to use firearms against migrants attempting to cross the border in the so-called “death zone".
