US halts processing of asylum applications from abroad
The United States is effectively ending the acceptance of asylum applications from foreign nationals located outside the country.
The announcement was made by White House adviser Stephen Miller following a ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States that tightened asylum eligibility procedures.
Under the court's decision, US authorities are no longer required to consider asylum requests from foreign nationals who arrive at border crossings along the Mexican border but have not yet entered US territory.
According to Miller, asylum seekers will be denied entry and redirected to other countries.
“America’s doors are closed, fully, to asylum seekers,” the White House official said while commenting on the new asylum review procedures.
The ruling marks another step in the administration’s broader effort to tighten immigration policy and strengthen controls along the southern US border.
