Belarus bans Armenian brandy over safety concerns

Belarus has banned the sale, import and circulation of Armenian brandy “Yerevan 2800” after the product was found not to comply with the requirements of the Customs Union’s technical regulations.

According to the Belarusian State Committee for Standardisation’s register, the eight-year-old brandy, produced by Armenian company MAP CJSC in the Armavir region, was classified as unsafe, Tass reports.

Testing found that the product’s tannin concentration was 0.14 ± 0.01 g/dm³, below the required minimum of 0.3 g/dm³, the committee said.

The regulator said the result indicated that the product had been given the appearance and certain properties of a particular type of product but could not be identified as the product it was presented as.

The authorities have banned the sale, import and circulation of “Yerevan 2800” in Belarus and revoked its conformity assessment documents.
