Iraq sentences three over rocket attack on base housing French troops

03 September 2026 17:09

An Iraqi court has sentenced three people accused of launching rockets at a military base near the northern city of Kirkuk while French troops from the international coalition were stationed there during the attack.

According to the ruling, each of the defendants was sentenced to 15 years in prison, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

The verdict was issued under Iraq’s anti-terrorism law by the Al-Karkh Criminal Court in Baghdad.

The court said the defendants took part in a rocket attack on the K-1 camp in spring 2026.

“The Al-Karkh court found three defendants guilty of launching rockets at K-1 Air Base and at a French military unit stationed there,” it noted.

The rockets fell near a group of French international coalition troops to destabilise security and stability in the country and spread panic among the population.
