Explosion on Ryazan-Moscow oil pipeline disrupts fuel supplies to Moscow
On August 26, an explosion rocked the Ryazan-Moscow main oil pipeline in Russia’s Ryazan region, temporarily halting the flow of petroleum products to Moscow, one of the pipeline’s primary recipients.
According to sources within the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, the explosion was accompanied by a substantial fire that quickly spread in the affected area, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
Eyewitness accounts and social media reports from Ryazan described a loud blast and the ensuing blaze, which prompted an urgent emergency response.
Firefighting and emergency teams arrived on site within hours to contain and extinguish the fire. The pipeline, which has been converted since 2018 to transport automotive gasoline by the company Transneft, plays a vital role in fulfilling the fuel demands of the Russian military.
Following the explosion, transportation of petroleum products to Moscow was suspended pending damage assessments. Transneft representatives are currently evaluating the extent of the damage and the timeline for restoring operations.
