Georgia seeks to reset relations with US, awaits reciprocal steps
The Georgian government has initiated efforts to normalize and reset relations with the United States and is now waiting for a similar response from their American counterparts.
"It is necessary to reset relations. A just, correct, and sensible approach is needed to achieve this. Steps have already been taken on our side. We are now in a waiting mode, anticipating reciprocal actions from our American colleagues," Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told reporters, as reported by Caliber.Az, citing foreign media.
However, the prime minister did not specify what specific measures the Georgian government has undertaken to reset relations with the US.
On July 31, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that Washington had decided to suspend an assistance program to Tbilisi, amounting to over $95 million, in response to Georgia's adoption of a law on foreign agents. Before this, the European Union also decided to freeze €30 million that had been planned for allocation to the Georgian Defense Ministry for the same reason.
