Russian official: Armenia participates in drafting Eurasian security statement but declines to sign
Spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova has said that Armenia participated in the preparation of the statement on "Principles of Ensuring Security in Eurasia," which was adopted at the meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council in Moscow on October 7, but ultimately did not sign it.
Zakharova made these remarks in response to a question from the Russian News.ru website, Caliber.Az reports.
She explained that although Yerevan contributed suggestions to the text, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan did not sign the final document.
"I think it's better if he explains the reason himself," Zakharova remarked.
Earlier, Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan stated that Armenia abstained from joining two statements adopted at the CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting.
These statements concerned "Principles of Ensuring Eurasian Security" and "Unacceptability of Using Unilateral Restrictive Measures in International Relations".
