Kazakhstan appoints new head of security council secretariat

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has appointed Murat Baimukashev as Head of the Secretariat of the Security Council of Kazakhstan, according to the Akorda presidential administration.

“By decree of the Head of State, Murat Kalibekovich Baimukashev has been appointed Head of the Secretariat of the Security Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan; he has been relieved of his previous post,” Akorda said.

Born in 1967, Baimukashev graduated from the Kazakh Agricultural Institute, the Karaganda Higher School of the National Security Committee and the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.

He has held senior positions in Kazakhstan’s internal affairs agencies, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Prime Minister’s Office. His previous positions include Chairman of the Administrative Police Committee of the Interior Ministry, Deputy Interior Minister, and First Deputy Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the Security Council.

Nurzhan Kajiakbarov has been appointed First Deputy Head of the Secretariat, while Ruslan Zhaksylykov and Gennady Zuev have been named Deputy Heads.

The appointments come after Kazakhstan formed a new government, with four ministries also receiving new leadership.
