Google to invest $1 bllion in internet cables between Japan and US
The US corporation Google will invest $1 billion in laying two new fibre optic internet cables that will connect Japan with the Northern Mariana Islands and the island of Guam.
Together with several partners, including KDDI, ARTERIA, Citadel Pacific and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), "new fibre optic routes are being created between the continental US and Japan", TASS reports, citing a statement by the technology giant.
The implementation of these projects "will improve the reliability and resilience of digital connectivity between the US, Japan, and a number of Pacific Island nations and territories," Google said in a statement.
The cables will be provided by Japan's NEC, one of the world's largest telecoms companies.
