Hamas rejects temporary ceasefire proposal amid ongoing conflict
Hamas has turned down a proposal for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza during indirect negotiations with Israel.
The Palestinian group stated that the initiative, which included an exchange of a limited number of hostages for Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons, fails to meet their fundamental demands, Caliber.Az reports citing foreign media.
A representative for Hamas emphasized that the proposed terms do not address the urgent humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people and do not include provisions for restoring infrastructure or reopening key crossings, particularly the Rafah crossing on the Gaza-Egypt border.
He reiterated Hamas' position that the Palestinians seek a permanent ceasefire, the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, the lifting of the blockade, the return of displaced individuals to their homes, and a comprehensive agreement for hostage exchanges.
On October 29, Hamas expressed its willingness to consider ceasefire proposals, provided they align with its demands. The group's statement indicated that they are open to any agreement that would alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza.
