Fire claims 17 lives in pearl shop, including women, children in India
At least 17 people, including several women and children, lost their lives in a devastating fire that broke out in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad, located in the state of Telangana.
The blaze erupted in a pearl shop. The store, owned by a single family, had a residential area situated directly above it where the victims were reportedly living, Caliber.Az reports, citing Indian news website.
Union Minister Rajnath Singh has mourned the loss of lives in the fire tragedy at Hyderabad's Gulzar House.
Local authorities believe the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but were unable to contain the flames quickly enough to prevent the tragic loss of life.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep condolences to the families affected by the tragedy. The government has announced financial compensation: approximately $2,300 for the families of the deceased and around $580 for those injured.
