US Secretary of State, Russian FM hold key talks on American peace plan for Ukraine
Spokesperson for the US Department of State Tammy Bruce has announced that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a phone talk to discuss a comprehensive American peace plan aimed at ending the ongoing war in Ukraine.
“Secretary Rubio welcomed the prisoner exchange agreement reached during the May 16 Ukraine-Russia talks in Istanbul and delivered President Trump’s strong message: the United States is committed to achieving a lasting end to the Russia-Ukraine war,” she said, Caliber.Az reports, citing the message of the US Department of State.
“The comprehensive peace plan proposed by the United States outlines the best way forward. The Secretary emphasized President Trump’s call for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the violence,” she added.
The document in question is a 22-point plan developed following negotiations among representatives from the US, Ukraine, and Europe, held in London at the end of April. The plan includes provisions for a ceasefire and notably addresses a key demand from Russian President Vladimir Putin — namely, that the US will not support Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
