IDF eliminates senior Hezbollah commander in Lebanon airstrike
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) announced on May 16 that they had carried out an airstrike in southern Lebanon, killing a senior Hezbollah commander.
The strike targeted the area of Mazraat Jemjim and was aimed at disrupting efforts to rebuild Hezbollah’s military infrastructure in the region, IDF reported on X, Caliber.Az writes.

According to the statement, the commander was responsible for operations in the Shaqif area and was actively involved in reestablishing Hezbollah's terrorist infrastructure.
"The rebuilding of terrorist infrastructure and related activity constitutes a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon," the IDF said.
The strike comes despite a ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hezbollah on November 27, 2024, aimed at ending more than a year of hostilities linked to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.
However, in apparent violation of the truce, the Israeli military has maintained control over several strategically significant positions in southern Lebanon and has continued to carry out intermittent airstrikes, citing the need to neutralise what it calls “Hezbollah threats.”
