Nepal flood death toll rises to 157

The death toll from severe flooding and landslides in Nepal’s Rasuwa district has risen to 157, according to local police.

Nepali outlet Ratopati reported that another 41 people injured in the flooding and landslides are currently receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

More than 3,300 police personnel have been deployed to the affected region to carry out search-and-rescue operations.

A powerful landslide struck the China-Nepal border near the Gyirong border crossing on August 26, triggering major flooding. The resulting torrents swept away dozens of buildings, bridges, and vehicles.

Approximately 1,000 people remain missing, including nearly 300 foreign nationals, according to local reports.

Communications in the disaster zone have also been disrupted, with mobile phone service unavailable in the affected area.
