Human development day to spotlight climate initiatives at COP29 Azerbaijan

Human Development Day is set to take place during COP29, Mukhtar Babayev, the COP29 President-designate and Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan said.

The announcement was made at the event “Roadmap to Mission 1.5°C” held during the Pre-COP29 conference, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Babayev stated that the day will focus on activities related to human development, irrigation, and youth engagement, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among all parties involved.

He highlighted Azerbaijan's commitment to fostering international cooperation during COP29, urging nations to expand their ambitions and create opportunities for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. “Transparency is a crucial step in building trust,” he noted, adding that coordinated efforts and financing are essential in combating climate change and addressing its impacts.

Furthermore, Babayev proposed the establishment of a Climate Change Fund to unite public and private sectors in the fight against climate change. He stressed that adaptation must be a key focus area for scaling up and accelerating global climate action.
