UN Pre-COP29 heard calls for unified governance model To address climate change
Firdaous Oussidhoum, Special Adviser to the Secretary General of the “United Cities and Local Government,” world institution, has emphasized the urgent need for a unified governance model to enhance climate action efforts globally.
Speaking at a panel session during the UN 2024 Pre-COP29, Oussidhoum underscored the importance of collaborative governance between international bodies and regional authorities, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
She highlighted that while international cooperation is crucial, it is equally essential to intensify efforts at the regional level.
“Striking a balance between the global community and regional governance is vital for effective climate action,” the special adviser stated.
Calling for immediate measures to combat climate change, she warned that “the cost of inaction is becoming too high—both in terms of human life and financial implications.”
Furthermore, Ussidhum advocated for the Loss and Damage Fund to serve as a central component in supporting adaptation and the implementation of climate initiatives.
