Baku prepares for parade marking 5th anniversary of Victory in Patriotic War PHOTO
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence announced that, under the direction of President Ilham Aliyev, a military parade will be held in Baku on November 8, to mark the fifth anniversary of the Victory in the Patriotic War.
Ahead of the event, a journalist of Caliber.Az visited Azadliq Square, the traditional venue for Victory Day parades, to report on preparations.
Observers noted the rapid removal of nearly all metal structures previously used for the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Workers are currently dismantling the remaining installations, leaving Azadliq Square largely clear.
Only remnants of spectator stands remain near the Government House, along the adjacent boulevard by the fountain, and closer to the Maritime Station.
Concrete barriers and advertising banners have not yet been fully removed.
The square is being cleared of debris, old race markings are being erased, and preparations are underway for new markings and the installation of stands for parade guests.
The first parade commemorating Azerbaijan’s Victory in the Patriotic War took place at Azadliq Square on December 10, 2020. A third anniversary parade was held in the liberated city of Khankendi on November 8, 2023.
