The Fund for Support to Azerbaijani Diaspora, operating under the country's State Committee on Work with Diaspora, has dispatched humanitarian assistance to ethnic Azerbaijanis and local residents affected by the recent flooding in Georgia’s Lagodekhi Municipality.

The aid initiative followed the overflow of the Kabali River on September 27, which impacted several villages in the region, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

The assistance—comprising food supplies and essential household items—was distributed across the villages of Kabali, Ganjala, Uzuntala, Karajala, and others. The effort was carried out in collaboration with the Kabali Development Centre.

Yavar Mammadov, Head of the Kabali Development Centre, stated that a formal appeal had been made to the Fund for Support to Azerbaijani Diaspora in the immediate aftermath of the disaster. In response, humanitarian aid was provided to 120 families, including both Azerbaijani and Georgian households.

“For centuries, we have lived in harmony with our Georgian brothers, and of course, we have always supported one another—even in the most difficult times,” Mammadov said. “We are grateful to President Ilham Aliyev and to the relevant Azerbaijani institutions for extending assistance not only to Azerbaijanis but also to Georgians in need. The spirit of friendship, good neighborliness, and brotherhood between our peoples has endured through generations and continues to serve as a model for others.”

Ramiz Amirov, a representative of the Lagodekhi Mayor’s Office in Kabali, also expressed appreciation on behalf of local residents, commending the Fund for Support to Azerbaijani Diaspora for its timely assistance and solidarity.

Villagers emphasized the long-standing strategic and cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Georgia, noting that Baku has consistently regarded Tbilisi as a reliable and friendly partner. The historical bonds of mutual respect and cooperation, they said, remain strong and continue to shape bilateral relations.

Residents also conveyed their gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for extending humanitarian support to Georgian citizens affected by the natural disaster.
