Two Azerbaijani seamen killed in a drone attack on a cargo vessel in the Sea of Azov have been buried in their home regions following funeral ceremonies attended by family members, officials and members of the public.
The captain of the ship, Rajab Akhadov, was laid to rest in the village of Yenicand in Azerbaijan’s Neftchala district after his body was returned to his hometown, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Akhadov, born in 1976, had spent many years working as a ship captain.
His funeral was attended by relatives, local officials and community representatives.
The vessel’s chief mate, 29-year-old Mahammad Ilham oglu Aliyev, who also died in the same drone strike on the cargo ship, was buried separately in his native village of Ashaghi Tala in the Zagatala district. A farewell ceremony was held there before his interment at the local cemetery.
Both men were killed when the cargo vessel came under attack by drones in the Sea of Azov, an incident that has highlighted ongoing risks to civilian maritime traffic in the wider conflict-affected region.
