Strong summer demand fuels growth in flights from Azerbaijan

Nearly 40 airlines are currently operating scheduled flights to destinations worldwide from Heydar Aliyev International Airport, offering passengers a broad and diversified route network, the airport’s press service told Caliber.Az.

Among the carriers serving the hub are Azerbaijan’s leading carrier AZAL, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, LOT Polish Airlines, Air Astana, Wizz Air, Pegasus Airlines, AJet, Centrum Air and China Southern, alongside other international operators.

According to the airport, demand during the summer season continues to be driven primarily by leisure travel, with resort destinations in Türkiye and major European cities topping passenger preferences. Antalya, Bodrum and Izmir remain among the most popular coastal destinations, while Rome, Milan, Paris, Barcelona, Prague and Vienna are also in high demand.

The airport also reported a marked increase in interest in Asian and Central Asian routes in recent years. The introduction of a visa-free regime between Azerbaijan and China has further boosted the appeal of destinations such as Beijing and Urumqi.

At the same time, Central Asian cities including Astana, Almaty, Tashkent, Shymkent and Samarkand are attracting growing numbers of travelers, driven by their historical significance along the Silk Road, distinctive cultural heritage and expanding tourism infrastructure.

The summer season has also seen an expansion of Baku’s route network, supported by the entry of new airlines. Air Serbia has launched flights to Belgrade, Airblue to Lahore, and FlyOne to Tashkent, providing passengers with additional connectivity options.
