Azerbaijan sets regional example in climate action, UN official says
17 October 2025 13:46
Despite contributing just 0.11% to global greenhouse gas emissions, Azerbaijan is emerging as a regional leader in climate action, a UN official has said.
Curt Carrigan, representative of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), made the remarks at the Third Urban Development Forum in Baku, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“Azerbaijan ranks among the world’s most climate-sensitive countries and is already setting an example for the region,” Carrigan said.
“The country has set an ambitious target to cut emissions by 40% by 2050.”
He emphasised that as urbanisation accelerates across the Asia-Pacific region, cities must manage growth while pursuing low-carbon development pathways.
