Baku court extends detention of Russian nationals over gang allegations

The Sabail District Court in Baku has extended the detention of a group of Russian nationals suspected of involvement in organised crime.

According to their lawyer, Elchin Sadigov, the court has prolonged their pre-trial detention by a further three months, starting from November 1, Caliber.Az reports.

The eight-member gang is alleged to have been involved in the transit of drugs from Iran, online distribution of narcotics, and cybercrime activities.

Earlier in July, Azerbaijani law enforcement authorities carried out an operation in Baku targeting organised criminal groups involving Russian nationals.

Two groups were detained during the operation, suspected of orchestrating drug trafficking and engaging in online fraud.
