Iran to launch national AI organisation under presidential oversight
Iran’s Parliament has approved the establishment of a National Artificial Intelligence Organisation as an independent body operating under the supervision of the President, aiming to organise and advance the country’s AI ecosystem.
According to Mehr News Agency, lawmakers approved an amendment to Article 3 of the National Artificial Intelligence Bill during Sunday’s open session, mandating the creation of the organisation using existing national resources.
The organisation’s secretariat will report to the President, ensuring coordination among government bodies in implementing national AI strategies. The head of the organisation will also be appointed directly by the President.
Under the new law, the organisation is required to draft its statute within three months of the law’s enforcement, in collaboration with the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, the Administrative and Recruitment Affairs Organisation, the Planning and Budget Organisation, and the Ministries of Science, Health, ICT, Labour, and Education. The statute will then be submitted to the Cabinet for approval.
