Iran labels EU air and naval forces as terrorist organisations

The Iranian authorities have declared the air and naval forces of the European Union as terrorist organisations, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, reported by RIA Novosti.

The ministry explained that the decision was made under a law providing retaliatory measures in response to the United States’ designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation. The law also allows Iran to take similar measures against other countries that supported the U.S. decision.

On 19 February, the Council of the European Union added the IRGC to its list of terrorist organisations. Iran stated that its designation of EU forces is a direct response under its retaliatory legislation.
