Global Media Group, UN Global Compact forge partnership for sustainable development

09 October 2024 21:11

On October 9, Elnur Abdullayev, Chairman of the Board of Global Media Group, and Samir Mammadov, Head of the UN Global Compact for Azerbaijan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at promoting sustainable business practices.

The memorandum outlines a collaborative effort between the two organizations to advance the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact and enhance responsible business conduct, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Recently joining the UN Global Compact, Global Media Group has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and corporate governance (ESG), along with supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Global Media Group’s corporate social responsibility strategy centres on sustainable development and ethical business practices. The organization is engaged in various initiatives, including enhancing energy efficiency, streamlining operations, reducing waste through recycling collaborations, digitizing processes to minimize paper usage, fostering a fair workplace, and promoting employee development.

Elnur Abdullayev emphasized the importance of sustainability in contemporary business, stating, “Sustainability has become an indispensable priority in today's global business world. As Global Media Group, we have also committed to building our mission on sustainability. Each of our companies, including Global Management, Report News Agency, Baku TV, and Oxu.az, holds international certifications such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, covering quality management, environmental protection, and health and safety.”

He further noted that the partnership with the UN Global Compact will enhance the organization’s environmental accountability and transparency in its operations. “We are striving to integrate sustainability principles into our strategy, operations, and culture. These initiatives position us to actively contribute to sustainability and achieve positive social, environmental, and economic impacts. Through this memorandum, Global Media Group not only plans to be a member of the Global Compact but also aims to collaborate on broader projects,” Abdullayev added.

Samir Mammadov highlighted the media's crucial role in promoting sustainable development: “Today, media plays an important role in sustainable development by raising awareness, shaping public opinion, and promoting accountability on environmental, social, and economic issues. Global Media Group's commitment to the UN Global Compact marks a significant milestone, not only for the sustainability of the company and its affiliates but also for mobilizing the private sector in Azerbaijan toward a sustainable global future.”

The decision to hold the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Azerbaijan, coupled with President Ilham Aliyev's declaration of 2024 as the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World,” underscores the importance of sustainability in the country’s agenda. Global Media Group is determined to play a vital role in international sustainability initiatives and promote green practices in the business sector.
