Hungary urges restraint amid NATO Ukraine contingent talks Warning against words of war
Statements from NATO member states regarding the potential deployment of military contingents to Ukraine heighten the risk of escalating into WWIII, warned Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations, Peter Szijjártó, in an interview with TASS.
"In such a critical juncture, both actions and words carry significant weight. Discussing the deployment of troops to Ukraine on behalf of certain NATO members poses a grave danger as it brings us closer to an alarming prospect – the outbreak of WWIII," Szijjártó cautioned.
Expressing Hungary's stance, the minister stressed the necessity of urging colleagues and allies to exercise restraint in both rhetoric and actions to prevent exacerbating the risk of a global conflict.
"I believe there's a growing sentiment across Europe – among the general populace, not just political leaders – toward adopting a more pragmatic approach. More individuals are inclined to oppose measures that escalate tensions and increase the likelihood of conflict," Szijjártó emphasized.
