21 October 2024 22:34

NATO's newly established maritime operations command center, responsible for the Baltic Sea region, commenced operations on October 21.

“It will be ready to lead maritime operations in peacetime, during crises, and in wartime,” German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.

Located in Rostock, the command center is led by a German admiral and staffed by 180 personnel from 11 NATO member countries, including Britain, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, and Sweden.

The command's primary responsibilities will include continuous 24-hour surveillance of the region and coordination of NATO's maritime activities in the Baltic Sea.
