Lithuanian FM proposes NATO develop defence plan for Ukraine Ahead of membership
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis has suggested that NATO begin developing a defence plan for Ukraine, even before the country officially joins the alliance.
In his remarks, Landsbergis highlighted that defence plans were created for Lithuania shortly after its NATO membership, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
He emphasized the need for Ukraine to avoid lengthy waiting periods for such plans, stating, “There is no reason for Ukraine to wait decades. Plans can be drawn up now.”
The minister noted that establishing a defence plan for Ukraine would send a strong signal to Moscow, underscoring NATO's commitment to supporting Ukraine in its defence efforts.
Previously, it was reported that the European Union is set to discuss the possibility of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine. According to an unnamed European official, the question of deploying a peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine will inevitably come up in future discussions.
