Uzbekistan, Hong Kong agree on joint roadmap for expanded cooperation

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from China led by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, John Lee Ka-chiu, with both sides discussing the further expansion of bilateral cooperation, according to a statement published on the official website of the president.

At the beginning of the meeting, John Lee conveyed greetings and best wishes from Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The talks also focused on strengthening interregional ties and practical engagement with Hong Kong. It was noted that relations between Uzbekistan and China have reached an unprecedented level of an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership.

During the talks, special attention was given to strengthening economic cooperation between regions of Uzbekistan and Hong Kong. The visit of a Hong Kong business delegation to Tashkent was highlighted as creating additional opportunities for partnership development.

Priority areas of cooperation include green energy, agriculture, biotechnology, the digital economy, fintech, artificial intelligence, and innovative startups.

The discussions also covered the expansion of trade, economic and financial ties, development of educational, tourism and business exchanges, as well as the launch of direct air connections and consular services for citizens.

Following the meeting, the sides agreed on a joint roadmap, the establishment of a business council, and a mutual visa-free regime between Uzbekistan and Hong Kong on a reciprocal basis.
