Gas release at Kyrgyz mine kills two workers
A gas release at the “Asar” mine in the city of Sulyukta in Kyrgyzstan on June 4 left two people dead, according to local reports and emergency services.
Kyrgyz media reported that the incident occurred on Thursday, June 4, at the mine.
Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said 12 rescuers were dispatched to the site. During reconnaissance, it was established that in section No. 2 of a ventilation inclined shaft at a depth of about 240 metres, the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO₂) reached 5.6%.
Two miners were trapped inside the mine and suffered gas poisoning. Rescuers provided first aid, brought them to the surface and handed them over to an ambulance team.
Medical personnel said the men, aged 23 and 66, died as a result of gas poisoning.
After completing the operation, the rescuers returned to their permanent base.
