Russian airlines remain under US export restrictions

The US Department of Commerce has extended for another year restrictions stripping Russian airlines Aeroflot, Utair and Azur Air of their export privileges.

The extension was requested by the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS). The restrictions, first imposed on April 7, 2022, have been renewed periodically and prohibit the airlines from engaging in transactions involving the export or re-export of items subject to US export control regulations.

The extension means the three carriers remain barred from purchasing spare parts in the United States, as well as obtaining aircraft maintenance and repair services there. They are also prohibited from re-exporting US-origin components through third countries.

According to the Commerce Department, the revocation of export privileges prevents the provision of services to the affected aircraft, including services performed outside the United States, effectively limiting the airlines’ ability to operate internationally.
