Secret underground prison uncovered in Bangladesh Revealing years of political repression
Bangladesh has disclosed the existence of a clandestine underground prison, codenamed “Aynaghar” or “House of Mirrors,” where political detainees were allegedly held for years.
Situated within the confines of a military garrison in Dhaka, the facility came to light amid ongoing concerns over human rights abuses in the country, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been in power since 2009, initiated a stringent crackdown on dissent upon her return to office, deploying a rapid response unit to carry out her directives.
Human rights activists claim that soldiers from the army's intelligence division have been implicated in the violent detentions of over 700 individuals since Hasina’s administration began. Disturbingly, reports indicate that at least 80 of these detainees have been found dead, while approximately 150 remain unaccounted for.
