Passenger train collides with lorry in Netherlands

A passenger train collided with a lorry carrying concrete blocks at a level crossing in the Netherlands, bringing rail traffic on the affected line to a standstill, Dutch broadcaster NOS reports.

The accident occurred at around 10 a.m. in the municipality of Ermelo, near Amsterdam. The lorry, which was towing a semi-trailer loaded with concrete blocks, was on the level crossing when the passenger train approached.

There were around 150 passengers on the train, with no injuries reported so far. Passengers were evacuated and taken to the nearest station, where coaches were expected to transport them to their destinations.

Rail services between Putten and Nunspeet have been suspended until around 5 p.m. local time as authorities investigate the accident and clear the site.
