Zelenskyy suspends Ukraine’s Prosecutor General

14 September 2026 18:52

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has suspended Ruslan Kravchenko from his post as the country's Prosecutor General.

The decision was formalised in a presidential decree. The document does not specify the reasons for Kravchenko’s suspension.

The decree cites Part Two of Article 11 of Ukraine’s Law “On the Legal Regime of Martial Law,” which allows the president to suspend officials whose appointment falls within his authority during martial law.

The move follows a recent escalation between Kravchenko and Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies. Kravchenko earlier said he had signed notices of suspicion against National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Director Semen Kryvonos and an individual close to the head of the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).

Zelenskyy subsequently called on the Verkhovna Rada to immediately support Kravchenko’s dismissal as Prosecutor General.

NABU and SAPO described Kravchenko’s actions as a continuation of what they called a systematic attack on Ukraine’s anti-corruption institutions.
