US reports rising oil shipments through strategic Hormuz Strait

The seven-day rolling average of covert oil shipments escorted by the US Navy through the Strait of Hormuz is increasing and is expected to continue rising, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said.

Wright made the remarks at a meeting of the UN nuclear watchdog, adding that the volume of oil transported through the strategic waterway has been steadily increasing.

“The trend in that seven-day rolling average has been going up and will continue to go up,” he told a press conference.

Wright also revised an earlier estimate of the daily oil volume recorded on September 1, saying it was higher than the 17 million barrels he had initially cited.

“There was one ship not counted. It turned out it was almost spot on 18 million barrels that day,” Wright said.
