Iran captures oil tanker with smuggled Oil in Persian Gulf
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy has captured a Togo-flagged oil tanker for smuggling petroleum in the Persian Gulf.
On July 26, the IRGC Navy’s 3rd naval zone reported seizing the vessel in the northern Persian Gulf, Caliber.Az reports citing the Iranian media.
The tanker, which was carrying over 700,000 liters of oil and had nine Indian crew members aboard, was confiscated under a judicial warrant.
The oil tanker, named “Pearl G,” is owned by an Iraqi national residing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. According to the IRGC, the tanker was seized by Iranian military forces while being loaded with smuggled oil from Iranian sources. The vessel has since been transferred to Iran’s Imam Khomeini Pier. Earlier this year, in late January, the IRGC Navy also confiscated a foreign tanker carrying two million liters of smuggled fuel in southern waters.
In recent years, the IRGC Navy has employed advanced detection technology to monitor all activities in the Persian Gulf and ensure the security of maritime routes.
