Iran, IAEA reach agreement to resume inspections at nuclear sites
The international community has received a signal that control over Iran’s nuclear facilities could be restored following reports of an agreement between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
According to Reuters, on Tuesday, September 9, Iran and the IAEA announced a deal to resume inspections at Iranian nuclear sites, including those damaged by previous U.S. and Israeli strikes.
Specific details of the agreement have not yet been disclosed, and Tehran warned that the deal would become void if sanctions were reimposed.
The agreement, reached between IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during a meeting in Cairo, lays the groundwork for the full restoration of inspection oversight that was interrupted following military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities in June.
Diplomats stress that the critical aspect will be the details of the agreement, which remain undisclosed.
